Juniper James is getting ready to celebrate 3 years here in Sacramento, loving on the locals, and we have never had so many opportunities to get involved! We have quite a lot of events under our belt, and this year is shaping up to be our busiest yet, with annual events in tow, we seem to be adding to each month’s calendar on a daily basis.

We also are in the process of completely re-branding & will be (hopefully) launching our new site near the beginning of May. SO much to do, plan, blog and spread the word about!

We care about the locals, building community and enabling the creativity of those around us to blossom. A great way to do that is taking on interns who get to have a very hands-on creative role in all of the many processes.

  coordinating with vendors & venue, procuring sponsors, PR before & after event…)

We recently told you all about MTX – the new athletic line from local loves, Morris & Terry. Their clothes (for the little ones, as well as the new athletics line) have so much style while still being comfortable to wear.

With recent features in SELF MAGAZINE and PEOPLE MAGAZINE, MTX is making some big waves.

These girls have such an eye for design, and we are proud supporters of M&T here at Juniper James. For those of you die-hard JJ fans, you may remember them from their adorable vintage-inspired kid’s clothing line that we featured at our first annual Create In Cal event at Hot Italian. But Marisa & Terry aren’t just about outfitting adorable little ones.

Their newest venture – gorgeous, easy-to-wear athletic pieces for women: MTX.

We think polka dots make everything just a bit cheerier.

We love the print, and think it should be added to one’s outfit as a dash of whimsy more often. This week’s look is (as always) completely thrifted, and under $20 for the entire look.

When scouring the internet for fun polka pics, the overwhelming majority of the styles found were simply black & white. It’s not every day that one comes across color + polkadots in the same garment, so this sheer layered top was such an exciting find! The creamy tan-pink hue was just so pretty and different. And for $3.00 – there was no passing it up.

We’ve had a lovely break for Christmas, and are excited to take on the new year with gusto!  This year, Christmas was all about quality time with loved ones, and totally not centered around gifts. BUT, one gift we just had to share came from our very own Skylar.

She found this adorable little envelope necklace at Heart Boutique (19th & Capitol) and wrote me a sweet love note for the inside of it. Heart Boutique honestly has some of the best accessories for women in Sacramento. Trendy, but still unique, I’m in love with my new necklace. Haven’t taken it off since she gave it to me yesterday – seriously, the perfect gift.

And the fact that it came with an evening on the couch together,
with a great comedy & some wine: even more perfect.

Seriously blessed. In fashion & friendship.

We intentionally planned it on a Tuesday, knowing everyone’s weekends in December were probably spoken for a month ago, and the crowds delivered! The show of support for (and from!) the locals was overwhelming. The place was PACKED for most of the night – people shopping, eating, drinking and getting to know each other.

Everyone enjoyed the variety of products to shop, and how wonderful all the vendors are to chat with. And I have to say, each vendor was hand-picked, as someone I personally respect, and want to further their business. I’m so happy that translated into such a positive environment at the event. We were feelin’ the love.

BUSINESS : PERSONAL.

Over the next couple weeks, we’re going to be drastically revamping our site and part of that process is vendor & shop pages. Each one of our vendors last night (as well as a ton of other local lovelies) will soon have their very own Juniper James Page! On the vendor pages,  you can not only get pertinent shopping info & get connected to their stuff, but also get to know the people behind the magic.

Pictures of the product/shop are important, but to us, so is knowing who the owner is, and why they love what they do.

We feel that a vital part of creating community is making business personal. There’s something special about walking into a shop, being able to shake the owner’s hand, and know they’ll send you an email when they get something in they think you’d like. Building relationships in the community is important. We’ve got some amazing people doing business in our little city, and we can’t wait to introduce them to you!

We talk about a lot of shops here, but we want to make it official & easy to digest.
We’re going to be featuring a shop every week as we add their shop page to the site.

As a manly man one can not be ashamed to craft their personal style. Especially at a thrift store.

Finding sweet jeans at back-alley prices is just smart and we all want to look smart and cool for less. Thrifting is an art, but don’t be intimidated if you don’t fancy yourself an artist. I’m here to help.

As you enter the store be determined to find your perfect fit. Don’t settle for “I kinda like it,” or “It’s so cheap that it doesn’t matter if I wear it very often.” I have fallen for this trap numerous times, and even if it was only fifty cents, it’s not worth it. Few things are more wasteful than having 1/2 a wardrobe that you only wear once. Even though you try it on every couple of days thinking, hoping…dreaming that somehow the puke orangeish-brown sweater-vest you rescued last week suddenly became bodacious over night, odds are, it probably didn’t. And that’s just lame and bad for the environment. (Anyone in the market for a puke orangeish-brown sweater-vest?)

When creating, or recreating your style,
remember that YOU make what you wear awesome,
it’s NOT the clothes that make YOU awesome.
