EVENT-FUL

MANLY MONDAY: CYCLE CENTRIC.

We’ve had a cycle-centric last couple of weeks as we prepared to throw
the ArtBike Party at Hot Italian (last Thursday, pics coming soon!)
& NAHBS Show at the Convention Center (last Friday-Sunday).
While partying & conference-ing it up, we met some great guys
and found some notable cycling apparel companies as well.

RAPHA

In a sea of spandex, khaki cargo pants and comfy sweaty t-shirts at the NAHBS convention, a well-dressed man definitely stood out. I perked up when I saw a guy wearing a GREAT pair of well-fitted dark denim jeans.

But they weren’t just any jeans – they were cuffed with reflector strips on the inside.
Wait, STYLISH cycling pants? No way.

Rapha does carry top of the line spandex etc for serious cyclists,
but we’re most excited about the handful of commuter friendly pieces, like this jacket.

CYCLELOGICAL GEAR: “bicycle commuter gear & ideas.”

Now THIS is a men’s commuter shoe! wow. As a fashionable guy, you can ride to work in the shoes you want to wear AT work, with the clips built in, but not sticking out. I held and looked closely at these shoes, and they are gorgeous, well-made men’s shoes, period.
They also happen to work great on a bicycle. They will be a bit pricey once available later this month, but if you’re that guy with a corporate job who still wants to ride his bike to work, this is the shoe for you.

Christian Utzman- SF resident, cyclist & avid thrifter.

We met Christian while working the NAHBS convention, and just loved his style.
When he walked in to pick up his bike, I knew almost immediatey which was his.
Stylishly co-ordinated, Christian and his bike are obviously meant to be together.

When asked where he got his whole ensemble, he replied, “All secondhand.” Really?! I need to thrift in SF more! He took the basic black jacket and added the custom buttons and patches. Very steampunk cycle chic. Great meeting you, Christian! Maybe we’ll come thrift in SF with you sometime.

And last but not least, on this Manly Monday,
a HUGE thank you to two men we’re super proud
to have in our community: Rick Houston & Steve Rex.

Rick is our local cycling advocate who single-handedly got NAHBS to choose Sacramento
for their venue city this year (a once-yearly show!). Not only did he get them here but he then
volunteered his time to run all the volunteers and most of everything else for NAHBS.
Tons of time, effort, planning, blood, sweat & tears on his part made NAHBS a success.

Steve Rex is our local master frame builder, this year celebrating 25 years in the business here in Sacramento. ( Rex Cycles on FB ) He does so much for our community and the cycling community at large, and happens to make one hell of a bike.
We’re so proud of both men, and thankful for their contributions to Sacramento.
Thanks for an incredible show!
