CHARACTER. MATTERS.
Dear fellow bloggers:
I love finding new blogs, discovering other’s passions and being inspired by someone else’s creativity.
Lately I’ve been seeing a trend in blogs of somewhat removed anonymity. I guess, in a way, if no one knows the face behind the words, it can facilitate a more uncensored approach. But to me, it’s difficult to give your work the time of day when you don’t have an “about me” page, your name anywhere, or any way to know who you really are. A faceless opinion has zero merit to me. Everyone’s got an opinion, so what makes yours matter? Character. I wouldn’t waste my time reading a blog on effective leadership written by Kim Jong Il, or movie reviews from someone who’s idea of a cinematic masterpiece is “Dude, Where’s My Car”.
If you care enough about your subject matter to write it, care enough about your readers to be transparent. To me, the main reason to be anonymously uncensored is out of fear of judgment for your opinions. And if you can’t say what you want with your name attached to it, maybe you shouldn’t be saying it.
Impact the world with your character. Your words just back it up.

I totally agree. As a former newsroom journalist we don’t get to hide behind a veil of anonymity. Everything we say must be backed up, as a blogger i try to establish who I am and my brand in a similar fashion.
Unknown bloggers tend to rip journalists apart, making outrageous claims about their work and their character without ever putting their own name on the line. A lack of transparency can hurt not just the blogger but the subjects and people they blog about.

Very well said. I definitely take the writer into account when reading blogs, and just don’t really know what to make of anonymous bloggers. It definitely hurts credibility…why should I believe them or listen to them?
